Sunday Igboho Will Not Be Safe In Nigeria, Don’t Extradite Him – Joe Odumakin Pleads With Benin Govt

The President, Women Arise and Center for Change, Joe Okei-Odumakin has pleaded with Benin not to repatriate Yoruba activist Sunday Igboho to Nigeria.

She said in a statement on Wednesday;

“Igboho will come to grief if he is extradited to Nigeria under the prevailing circumstances,”

According to reports, Sunday Igboho’s extradition began just after he was arrested. On Monday, news came in that Sunday Igboho has been arrested by Benin authorities in Cotonou while trying to flee Nigeria for Germany.

Some people said that Igboho was no longer in the adjacent country, which angered Okei-Odumakin.

She bemoaned the fact that the rumors, which have now been debunked, are harming the separatists’ ongoing asylum application.

The activist told those spreading the rumour to desist, adding that such is “an ill-wind that blows no one any good.”

Okei-Odumakin urged the Beninoise government “to speedily process and grant Igboho’s asylum application.”

She criticized President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration of being too soft on Boko Haram, herders, and bandits terrorizing Northern Nigeria.

Okei-Odumakin said the way officials “romance” outlaws while victimising and oppressing others “leave a sour taste in the mouth”.

With the way and manner in which Nnamdi Kanu was taken into Nigeria in circumstances that have yet to be completely disclosed, the furious advocate concluded that fascism is creeping up on Nigerians.

“Igboho cannot be assured safety or justice if extradited to Nigeria. He should be released from detention unconditionally and his safety and liberty guaranteed by the Republic of Benin authorities under extant international law.”

Okei-Odumakin urged the federal government to quit chasing shadows and focus on the real threats to the country posed by “the despicable elements it is treating with kid gloves.”
