Police Teargas Yoruba Nation Protesters, Arrest A Few In Lagos
The protesters gathered at Ojota, the venue of the Yoruba Nation rally in Lagos State have been dispersed by the security operatives.
Reports suggests the protesters scampered for safety after security operatives fired some tearsgas at them and arrested a number of them.
The protest was held and people came in their numbers even though the state police command issued a warning against the scheduled protest.
Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as their vans, were sent to the demonstration site in the early hours of today to prevent people from protesting. They disregarded the directive, however, and converged.
Those apprehended were taken to a Black Maria which laid in wait for them. The police also surrounded the critical areas where demonstrators had assembled.
The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, told the media this week that the state cannot afford to experience the carnage that occurred when the #EndSARS rally in October 2020 was hijacked by certain hoodlums.
However, the protest site has been returned to normalcy.
