Kogi Poly Students Bags 8 Years Imprisonment For Illegal Possession Of Firearms

Tenimu Mohammed, a student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, was sentenced to 8 years in prison by a Magistrate Court in Lokoja for illegal possession of firearms and unlawful association.

On Friday, April 9, 2021, Shehu Tenimu Mohammed, an ND II student in the Department of Public Administration, was apprehended carrying a locally made revolver pistol and five rounds of live ammo while passing through the Polytechnic’s main door.

On Tuesday, July 6, the trial judge, Justice Mohammed, convicted the suspect on the three-count accusation after he pled guilty to the charges in the charge sheet and fined him N8,000.

The prosecuting attorney at the hearing, Barr. Samuel Ikutanwa, had demanded that the charges be read to the accused person, who had pleaded guilty to unlawful association, possession of firearms, and being a member of a cult group.

In other development, Mr. Ifeanyi Okeke, the Chief Executive Officer of AutoEase services in Enugu State has been killed by suspected assailants.

According to reports, Mr Okeke was shot dead by the unknown gunmen on Sunday night, July 4 when he was returning to his house situated at Brick Estate, along Ekweremadu Drive, Independence Layout Enugu.

It was gathered that he was en route with his 7 year old son who he had gone to pick from a barbing salon when the incident happened.

According to the report, the perpetrators rammed his car from behind, and when he came out to inspect, they forced him to lie down on the floor before shooting him in the leg and stomach.

The State Police Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, saying operatives from the Layout’s Police Division instantly raced to the area upon receiving a distress call.
